Totally agreed, 35is most certainly has its place, I think they look great and for a certain job I suspect (I have never driven one) like most bmws they will perform admirably. What I was trying to say earlier, as you do, is that it's a shame they never did a 'hardcore' M version using parts from the E92 M3 (a more modern E85/86M essentially) and visual cues from their quite beautiful E89 GT3 car, a trick missed IMO.john-e89 wrote: Yeah shame no special M version but the 35is a decent car IMO.

I have had a m for 3years loved it a great car in every way . but now using and getting some miles on my 35is dare I say
I think the car is quicker smoother more refined bigger more modern .
BUT that's my opinion
they are both great cars in there own right .

I doubt you'll find anyone who disagrees with that. The thing is some people want different things from a car, people pay an awful lot of money these days for a (relatively) slow, totally unrefined, smaller, less modern porsche for instance. Funny old world.shortfuse 2 wrote:I think the car is quicker smoother more refined bigger more modern .

Refined isn't necessarily good (for some of us).

So are many VAG daily drivers. It's hardly the Spirit of the ///M ethos or have I mist something about this thread.shortfuse 2 wrote: I think the car is quicker smoother more refined bigger more modern .

I've mentioned it before. The E85 is a little too lardy IMHO. But we by our cars for different reasons and this one works for yours truley.
If they ever bring out another I hope it's smaller lighter & more nimble. As long as I can still fit behind the wheel.
and if they can still fit that V8

Sorry to say this, but the reason BMW did not make a true M version is because they never deemed the current version to be a true "sports" car, merely a sporty GT car

They figured they could stick M all over the entire range and sell thousands. Rather than making a true M car and selling a couple of hundredmwadZ4 wrote:Sorry to say this, but the reason BMW did not make a true M version is because they never deemed the current version to be a true "sports" car, merely a sporty GT car

You don't stop playing when you get old - You get old when you stop playing!
So I bought a 35is with all the toys to play with.

Re: is an M version ever going to come out?
I'm guessing BMW will keep going with their \\\M models for the foreseable future but future markets will dictate where they will go. Theres no way an E89 M model would have ever appeared as its just not an economically viable model. Its a shame certain models will disappear over the next 5 years, i.e. E89 35i and M135i will fall by the wayside and make room for more efficient front wheel drive models with smaller capacity turbo charged engines. BMWs own marketing research has shown 80% of BMW owners think their car is front wheel drive so from BMWs point of view why produce rear wheel drive models that are more expensive to manufacture. Seems though a little inconceivable that BMW would do away with its \\\M models altogether but you wonder how many they actually sell in a year.
I may change the M135i next year but pondering what to go for, but may swap for another M135i in the knowledge it will be a future classic, how many other hatches are available currently which are rear wheel drive with a 6 cyl 320bhp up front? i.e none, which I think will make the car pretty unique in years to come. I think the problem with the E89 35i as a future classic is the Z4M, the E89 has no \\\M pedigree so will be less sought after
Tim.

I like a few on here have had the "M" cars... The 1 M was a great car, the M5 was like an old mans boat.... And I have just came from the new M3 to my 3.5i...... And I have to say I like it better than the M cars I have had... But at the end of the day you buy a car for what you want... Some people buy them and leave as standard, some tune them to the hilt.... Horses for courses and all that
