I had the basic setup in my first 35iS and it was poor - but then I bought the car for the noise and top down as opposed to the stereo.

That said I now have the 14 speaker version in my current 35iS and think it is superb - totally different and all you would ever need IMO. It was already on my car so it wasn't like I paid more for it but £800+ (I think that's what it costs) is a lot.

+ 1. There are deeper and richer sounding factory systems from other manufacturers definately, but as SO8 says for £750 I think I paid, it's a very good set up including the graphic equaliser and well worth the outlay imo, especially when you look at the cost of adding aftermarket head units, amps, x overs, subs Mids and tweeters etc to a standard system should you wish.

Um. Confirms my suspicions that he 'Professional' setup in my E89 is 'Basic' or 'Poverty'

It's terrible. Who signed that off for production? Moral of the story is to try the audio system on the test drive, not on the way home after parting with your cash :-(

Thanks Metal Licker. I thought my car had tweeters fitted but on further examination, as per your diagram, it appears I have not. Cheapo BMW. :(

What the diagram doesn't show is that the professional speakers are an upgrade to the advanced ones. I have professional and previously have advanced. Yes there is a gain in clarity and volume. Sometimes though the mids can get muddled by the Dsp amp.

Also the bass is very loaded to the front. In the advanced setup the bass speakers behind the seats seemed to move more air that the professional ones I have now. Almost like they are throttled back

Sill a good sound

Why doesn't the Professional have the tweeters for the rear side channels? Holes are provided above the mids but they're empty. Weird.

hi guys,

just looking at the speaker layout that was posted in this thread. If there are tweeter's in the base of the A pillars is that a definite sign that the upgraded audio is installed? The dealer wasn't sure if the audio had been upgraded when I saw a Z4 recently.

Thanks :)
