My first zed was white with black leather, the second white with red leather. I didnt grow a pair of tits overnight when I did the change.
I've now got a Valencia Orange, that's a different issue altogether....

I must be missing something in my brain which says 'it matters what other people think of my car colour.
Go with what you want mate, your money your car. 28i arguably the best E89 to have, good mix of power, economy and running costs IMO.
All the best with the search.

Re: What colour combo
I dont think it matters so much on normal colours but there are a lot of strange colours of cars out there that have had me stumped as to why the owners would pick such a hideous colour.
I have seen Peugeot and Ford this week with a strange dog poo brown colour. Why?
The only thing I can come up with is it was a dealer special and had a huge discount.

Re: What colour combo
I had a 23i M Sport in white with black leather looked stunning! Averaged 35 mpg and lovely sound from the 6 cyl. (Proper BMW). However the my current Valencia Orange Z with matching trim is hard to beat as a combo. Still love the white and black though and not at all girly!

If I was buying again I'd go mineral grey, black interior, whip the oem wheels off and stick M6's on straight away!

Re: What colour combo
Just going back to your engine choice, you do realise that they are two very different engine's, in that one is a six cyl, naturally aspirated and the other a four cyl turbo engine, which in itself as been the result of much debate on here.

Re: What colour combo
Yes good point, the 28i is as you say 4 cylinder turbo charged. On paper it ticks all the boxes matching power with economy. I guess its down to whether you're after the straight six or not. I havent driven any of the E89's so can't talk from experience, but the figures do look good for the 28iHillWalker wrote:Just going back to your engine choice, you do realise that they are two very different engine's, in that one is a six cyl, naturally aspirated and the other a four cyl turbo engine, which in itself as been the result of much debate on here.

Re: What colour combo
I've had the 6 pot 23i, 4 pot 28i and now the 4 pot 20i.
I've found the 4 pot engines somehow lighter and more responsive and definitely more economical. Not much to choose between the 20 and 28 TBH, apart from the £4k+ price list difference.

Re: What colour combo
Hey thanks sooooo much everyone for your wise words and funny comments that had me in stitches regarding the white and red being girly.
So here is the dilemma now. I have found both 23i and 28i, both are cars that have all the toys I want, both white with red leather, but here is the question, the 23i is about £1200 cheaper than the 28i. The 28i is a 2013 plate whilst the 23i is a 2011, the 28i has only 6000 miles and the 23i has 15,000. The question is, bearing in mind that on the 28i the road tax is cheaper, £180 not £265 and also you get better fuel economy, so is it worth forking out the extra £1200 for the 28i, would it be more frugal in the long run?
I have not heard about the debate in regards to the 4 cylinder vs straight 6, which one would you say is the better engine, regardless of fuel economy?

Re: What colour combo
As the 28i is a 2.0l 4cyl engine + turbo, I would say that it will struggle to match the character & soul of the 6 cyl engine in any capacity.
The 28i will probably beat it in fuel consumption & power (for the smaller 6 cyl engines like the 2.3), but never be as smooth or soulful.
For me quick BMW means you go 6 cyls. Super smooth, sound great.
If you need faster, maybe look at the 35i (3l 6 cyl engine with turbos) or even the 35is.
I know a lot of people love them, but I would never consider the 4cyl engine in a BMW (just my opinion). It's probably the way all the ranges will end up, smaller & smaller physical engines with better turbos, but while you can get them, stay 6 cyl.

Re: What colour combo
I'm the same as dr_john i've owned the 6 cylinder and 4 pot.
I'd definitely go with the 28i out the two, in fact some on here would take the 28i over the 35i
As far as the noise goes, there's no difference and those that say there is probably haven't owned both.
White looks lovely, but have you seen the red leather in the flesh? I can look a bit coral coloured which I wasn't so sure about.
Good luck
