To stop it at any point with smarttop fitted, you just press the button again & it stops.

To resume (or go back in the opposite direction) from this stopped position, click the button you want (open or close) & it does it.

Pretty foolproof.

I wouldn't be without mine. Yes it's expensive but the costs are outweighed by the convenience the unit provides

So I bought a 35is with all the toys to play with.

I've had the smarttop on my slk 200 and z4, one of the best mods.

one touch for roof, remote roof control, remote window control, automatic folding of mirrors when locking the car.

I love it

It has to be from a trusted source - it's not worth the wait as they don't come to the market that often.
My advice, just get on and buy one - you'll not regret it!

hey everyone,

I'm shopping for a used Z4 right now so threads like this are really interesting for me.

Quick question: is the "open roof with remote fob" an optional feature? Or is it standard? I saw on the CarBuyer youtube review he starts the episode by opening the car with the remote.

Is it the comfort pack?

Thanks! :D

Not in the comfort pack on a 2011 E89 but might be an option. Smarttop enables it though.

My ST arrived yesterday from mods4cars (next day delivery - good stuff) and I need to ask a question of all the existing users.

I've done the recommended USB update procedure but want to programme the options using a laptop or PC before installing it in the car to save all the fiddling with the indicators - but can't find how to do this. I'm sure I've seen somewhere that it's possible - or have I misread the blurb?

Anyone help?

Found it! http://www.mods4cars.com/m4cupdate/manual/en.php Step 8.

Missed it in the hurry to open the box and get on with it! Be on the case tomorrow.

I'm pretty sure it's standard but you have to hold the button the whole time, if you stop it stops. Also at the end when the boot lid drops you have to hold for a few extra seconds because it still might not be over. This is one of the things ST takes care of.

Actually the indicator setting is really easy. I lend my car quite a bit, and taken it to the mechanics/garage 3 times since I got the ST and using the indicators to deactivate/activate takes literally 10 seconds, everything else can be done in a minute — you don't even need to wait for it to do all indications (e.g. when moving from function 5 to 6 you don't need to wait for it to blink 6 times if you already know its on 6 you can interrupt it like you interrupt a "press 5 for lost credit cards" on a answering machine).

Can you write an idiots guide for the indicator stalk method ?

It's only the switching on an off that I would use.

It's only the switching on an off that I would use.
1. Unlock car (with no key in ignition) to 'wake it up'.
2. Hold indicator stalk down for like 5-10 seconds till left indicator flashes once (indicating you are on function 0). Right indicator will then flash once (indicating function 0 is 'on').
3. press stalk upwards immediately
4. The left indicator should then flash once (indicating you're still adjusting function 0) and then the right indicator should NOT flash at all (indicating function 0 is 'off').
5. Put key in ignition OR just do nothing for 30 seconds — this will stop the programming mode.

Function 0 is the off/on function. To re-activate follow the above except right indicator should not flash at step 2, but flash at step 4.

The smarttop guys are pretty clever. Before I ordered I thought it was pretty expensive and when I received the ST I thought it looked like something that was £75 but after using it I see that it's priced at the right price at £280.
