Do we have any E89 owners who have actually changed their run flats over ..

It would be great to hear their opinions .. does it really make such a difference? plus for me the only way round the warranty would be a spare set of rims

all the best
No, we only have this topic like once a week and it's the same questions with the same answers and people who have changed their tyres on their E89s.

That's just some of the topics on tyres and wheels and people who have changed to non RFTs. I would keep finding more but A) the threads are visible on the pages, especially page 1 and B) there is a thing called 'search' bloody use it! :headbang:

Here's the link from when I replaced mine. viewtopic.php?f=23&t=70300&hilit=michelin

Transformed the ride for me. Couldn't of put up with the RFT's after coming from an E85 where I'd also ditched them.
Also the previous owner had several of the 326 alloys replaced due to cracking. Opinion suggests that the hard walls of the RFT could be contributing to the cracking of these and other BMW alloys especially in the larger sized rims.
Only time will tell. :)

I know James, it is a bit of a minefield as you get input from anyone and everyone. Maybe we need a thread where people JUST give their opinions on their car I.e. Like the model, year, suspension set up, rims and what and when they changed them and their opinion on how it changed the car

To the original question, we got eagles from Tyreleader.
No problems with them.
the tyres did arrive on different days and I took this being they were shipped from different warehouses.
Would use them again.

John, what's the warranty issue?
Pretty sure the warranty is void on wheel cracking should it arise if you change from run flats Raj.

Happy to be corrected though, which is highly likely..
I spoke to my dealer on this point when my rears needs replacing a couple of months ago.

They agreed to put in writing that it would not affect my warranty.

I decided not to proceed, as I would wish to replace all 4 tyres and there was loads of tread remaining on the fronts. But I will take them up when I need to change all 4.

I changed my runflats 6 months or so ago and really pleased with the results, don't tramline like I used to and just feels smoother overall. Insurance company (Direct Line) were informed and they were fine, no price change. No idea about warranty as mine had run out.

I have just swapped all four of the tyres on the 640d to non run flats and I am very happy with the results, it has made the ride far better and even given it a tiny bit more steering feel which was practically none existent with the run flats, I have wanted to do this on my previous BMW`s but never seemed to get the chance when all four tyres need changing at the same time.

I have read loads of people that have done it and been happy with the results and I can agree and say they are spot on.

Thats the problem ! Ive changed to non rft`s on my old e86 & 335d to pss & what a difference. Keep trying to tell my self to scrub the rft`s first, but can`t wait to get the car right NOW :D

Lee i find the rft`s on our 640d to be ok,20" Dunlops. 100% better than the bridgestone`s

Yes I agree and I liked the 20" Dunlops too and I think its a decent tyre and very grippy on the rear and its a quiet tyre too, its just that I struggled to get both front and rear non run flat Dunlop tyres for it so I went with Bridgestone instead just because I have always rated the Bridgestones I have had in the past.

Michelin are the overall best though from what owners say about them but I have yet to have a car with those on it.

KERMIT1970 wrote:Going to bite the bullet ! Had enough of the rft's :headbang: been shopping around & Camskill & tyre leader are by far the best prices for michelin pilot super sports in 19" form. Anyone had any experience with tyre leader as I've been told they have let a few people down. Camskill can't get me them for a week or so Tyre leader in 2/3 days.
I decided to stay with 18"s. 245mm square. Runs great. The 18" were a lot lighter than 19"s would have been, and PSS in that size are a lot cheaper than 19"s.

I also ended up liking the look of more rubber over thin carpets of tire, it looks more professional and less poserish.

Kermit, how are you thinking of getting round it?
John my cars only 1year old & tyres have only 5k on them so will put them back on if have any issues. Spoke to the dealer about the terrible runflats & my intentions & they don't seem to have a problem.
Great cheers Kermit, as said as well get it in writing from the dealers and non run flats are good to go, going to order a set of PSS, great boots. Personally I really like the 35is handling and these can only improve the ride further.
