Turbo timer

Anyone feel the need to get one if you drive the car hard, or does anyone think they're not necessary?

Nope. If I was tracking it then yes but otherwise no not really necessary for a car being used as a weekend toy or even a Daily Driver on the road.

I don't need one as I pootle the last mile or so home but it's easy to forget we've got forced induction as they're so quiet turbo wise and lag free.

And no blipping the throttle at switch off!
You don't stop playing when you get old - You get old when you stop playing!
So I bought a 35is with all the toys to play with.

As others have said, take it steady when you near your destination. Also other things that can help are reversing into parking spaces, put the roof up with the engine running. Both are done at low engine load so help flushing any heat out of the turbo's bearings.
