different exhaust

Post by jamesbond » Sat Apr 25, 2015 11:48 am

Hello

Just wondered if any members yet have changed their standard exhaust on their 35is yet ?

The miltek unit looks good, but they remove the secondary cats (warranty issues etc) or do you leave stock ? as the sound is great as is .. the only thing I don't like about mine is the Matt silver exhaust trims, and they are welded on ! so not easy to change.

I always like chrome on the exhaust trims or polished Stainless .

If you're happy with the sound and want to keep warranty just have the tip welds ground off at a garage and fit whatever you want.

Anything for the 35i to improve the noise? I'm aware of the exhaust valve DIY mod but is there any way to get the 35is louder exhaust in general without shelling out ££££?

Not sure if you've ever had a Miltek system before, I have on a FN2 Type R and oh my God it was sooooo loud to the point that the drone from it on a decent drive gave me a headache and other owners also agreed. Given how close to the rear you are I would advise against. The noise is perfect as it is as you've already said.

I'd say Maniac's advice is what you want to do. However I like the matt finish as it matches the grill and wing mirrors on mines and compliments the blue but agreed that different tips would be a nice choice.

Vision unless you buy a 35is or find a dealer to sell you the exhaust as it's different to the 35i with a 10db increase then it will either be the 'golf tee' mod or an aftermarket system.

I think the 35iS exhaust is about perfect. It is seemingly quite a bit louder than standard (there is a video on Youtube against a std 35i) and just goes so well with the car. Where I live I don't think the neighbours would appreciate louder - though they didn't mind my V8 TVR with a straight through exhaust

As per my post above and the BMW spec it's 10db louder over the 35i

I couldn't justify the extra layout for an IS as they're still significantly more expensive used :( Getting one in a colour I like would have meant a trip to Germany too.

I'm driving around with the gearbox in S mode all the time since it definitely makes the exhaust louder I feel; not just for hanging on to lower gears. I think the valve is always open in S mode?

Drinks a fair bit though
