Are bulbs covered under warranty in Italy. In the UK only xenons are.

The warranty wouldn't cover a blown bulb so warranty is irrelevant. If you check the hand book it tells you how to change the bulb. As for getting to the bulb it's not difficult.

Notice you have a 35i, what mods have you done to take it from 306bhp to 340bhp?

There is a clue in the posters signature, their car is a 2011 and not just 9 months old and when he joined the forum he didn't own a Z4 so bought used. Approved used or extended warranties to do cover any other bulbs other than Xenons.

If a bulb went that soon and not many miles covered I would be taking it back to the garage just to make sure there is nothing wrong but if it was a daily driver with a good few miles I personally would change it myself and keep an eye incase it went again so soon as it may have a problem.

Just be careful how you remove the bulb. They can fall out of their holder and end up inside the lamp housing.
Another brilliant design!

It was a German import so the handbook's illegible  The car was from a private Italian seller who himself bought it from a dealer with "250kw" on the tax statement. I assume it's a chipjob but BMW can set the record straight when I take it to them for peace of mind. I can't figure out the gearbox; on WOT it seems to think for a bit too long before deciding to kick down. Changing down manually (which it doesn't always do immediately when prompted) doesn't help: it makes interesting noises but doesn't actually pick up speed for a couple seconds. Is this turbo lag at work? I've never owned an automatic till now.

The 250kw version is the N54B30TO version is only avalible in the 35is, yours will be a N54B30 225kw as found in the 35i. You can also check your cars specs yourself on one of the many sites that do this using the last 7 digits of the VIN.

I have no issues with kick down and alteration in the 35is. I've never had an issue with any BMW auto boxes but the DTC is super quick so I would think that something's not right somewhere. I hope you get can get it looked at soon.

Back to this topic; my bulb seemed to work fine all-of-a-sudden, but now the inside bulb on the other side of the car has gone. Finding a W16W bulb isn't as easy as I thought.

Is this what I need?

Ring would suggest that yes that is correct and I assume it's the 'outer' brake lamp as the brake is also part of the LED tail lights. Unless someone here has changed the outer bulb then your best bet is to check with a BMW dealer as the handbook again does not advise of the bulb required :x

Changed mine in 5 mins last week. Open little plastic door. Grab the bulb holder and pull firmly.

Bulbs common size. Got mine at halfords and installed in the car park.
Why is it that people who can't take advice always insist on giving it?

I'd have to check. I just looked it up in the flippy roladesk thing in Halfords.

Why can't the bulb that's blown be taken out to see what it is :?

Fair point, that's what I would usually do but then not everyone thinks like that and want people to do their thinking for them. But then on the other hand it's beneficial for others who may need to change it and it's chucking it down. At least they can be prepared for when they get it somewhere dry.
