I don't understand wanting to put a diesel in a z4 (any sporty vert). It's just so wrong.
We own a diesel, it's very good at what it does, but it has a hard roof and lots of insulation.

Re: Diesel e89??!
I would say diesel in a zed is wrong, but after having a 335d mapped to 355bhp & now a 640d,if there's someone looking at doing lots of miles & want a vert then I think it would be perfect combination

It's never in dispute from a power perspective. But a Z4 is much more than just "power delivery", it has character and soul.KERMIT1970 wrote:I would say diesel in a zed is wrong, but after having a 335d mapped to 355bhp & now a 640d,if there's someone looking at doing lots of miles & want a vert then I think it would be perfect combination
Roof down... Engine on... Chugga chugga chugga chugga.... Can't understand how anyone would want to hear that / not want to hide under the dashboard.

I'm glad it's not just me!
I would quite happily have the Audi 3.0 v6 engine in any car, saloon or soft top. Shed loads of torque and 250 BHP along with economy of a 2.0 petrol engine or better!

You don't stop playing when you get old - You get old when you stop playing!
So I bought a 35is with all the toys to play with.

Re: Diesel e89??!
The blinkers need to come off Kermit! its still chugga chugga and so obviously an oil burner, I respect its economy for the performance it offers big time but it is unrefined in stop/start mode and sounds pretty rough a low revs and when pulling away, but you cant have it all ways with a diesel so you have to compromise in some aspects and refinement/noise is where you lose out with a diesel versus a good petrol for me.KERMIT1970 wrote:

Re: Diesel e89??!
Lee only stating imo a diesel wouldn't be a bad addition to the zed range. I wouldn't buy one lol. Some would.
As for that chugga chugga diesel 640,yours must be done in lol ours sounds great,so much so I've had people asking if it is a diesel from the inside.

Re: Diesel e89??!
I've heard an un-isolated 40d engine and it most definitely is a chugga chugga diesel. The only way to make a diesel engine sound okay is to make sure you absolutely DO NOT hear the engine, only the exhaust note. Problem is one of the delights of cars like the Z4 is hearing the engine & exhaust blended together with the top down.

Re: Diesel e89??!
In sport plus from inside as you go through the revs it does sound pretty good I agree but that's only down to the fake noise coming through the speakers though, maybe I am too hard on the engine but I just don't like the low revs and pulling away noise that is so obvious oil burner crudeness, what I cant argue with is its performance and you still get 40 mpgKERMIT1970 wrote:Lee only stating imo a diesel wouldn't be a bad addition to the zed range.
