I don't think the ECU's used have a flash count - that was the older units. My 08 plate Golf GTi Edition 30 had a flash count so when I remapped that I used Superchips whose software reset the flash counter. What they didn't say was that the Bluefin device couldn't remove all the signs of a remap in the other ECU's used by the car - such as the ABS control unit or DSG gearbox ... which show each adding or removing of the remap as a 'loss of communication' with the main ECU when the map is put on or removed. I went into the ECU''s separately and removed these error codes once I knew this was happening - but I was lucky enough to have access to a £8000 Bosch diagnostics computer which would do this unlike Superchips little Bluefin device which only removed error codes from the main ECU and couldn't look further.

IF you're really worrying about the warranty side then a remap is probably not for you otherwise go for it :)

Wow, ok, didn't realise that ! My 2010 330d had to have the ECU removed.

I would guess the Cobb device leaves traces like the Superchips Bluefin I have just mentioned then. Without an expensive diagnostics computer I am unsure if you could remove the traces of the map being removed.

i'd be inclined to go somewhere like Birds or Schnitzer. You'll pay more but it will have been properly researched and tested.

Birds do a Hartge 366hp upgrade for the 35i. You could have a quaife LSD whilst you're at it! :driving:

More so if they have their own warranty backup.

For both of those were talking four grand plus.. No

Sod it, life is short, if I bugger it up at least I'll have a nice looking non moving car on the drive rofl. I can go sit in it, drop the top and get a tan even if it no longer moves.

I'm sure all will be well, I've had lots of niggly issues but none that have ever meant a reliability issue. Besides I quite like the idea of the turbos giving up so I can put some bigger ones on ! ;)

After my play with the TTS today, I forgot how much I love this car at full chat. The sound is fantastic. More power please!

I think 350-360 is about all the car can manage re using effectively. I was told the 35iS will go to 400 but when I was asked what was the max recommended before the thing starts spinning up everywhere they (DMS) said about 360.

I find with 335bhp another 20-25 would be my preference - it would give it more bite without setting fire to the tyres every time I tried to use it. Big numbers are nothing without control and as I say I think 350-360 would be a hoot !!

I won't map mine as it still has 2 years of warranty and I would worry (thus I started off by getting the 35iS with a bit more courtesy of BMW) but if you are not concerned then go for it

For me the argument about warranty is car age irrelevant as it will still cost the same to fix no matter it's age.

I just fancy getting a bit more out of her and revitalise the marriage a bit!

Wow ! DMS quoted me 402 or thereabouts. I just can't see how you can deploy that power on our crappy roads. When I have had mapped stuff before it can detract from the enjoyment the car gives if the numbers are too high. IMO of course :)

So he reckons a 360hp 35i is quicker than a 997GT3 RS up to 170mph. Mmmmm.

I'd of thought reliability was the most important bit. Especially as your car is apparently temperamental.

I'll just have a quiet word with her about giving her a better heart. I'm sure she'll love that.
