Iphone 5 Cable Confusion

Post by Avallon » Sat Jan 10, 2015 12:30 am

So...I've read many topics on the iPhone 5 cable for the Zed but I'm not sure about this - any help would be welcome :)

I have a 2014 / 64 plate 28i. Bog standard audio. None of the audio/bluetooth/mobile phone options.

If I buy the media cable, will I still be able to control the iPhone through the radio?

Great and I will be able to navigate through the music collection and play what I want using the BMW radio controls?

Yes correct, you can control music and phone from the head unit

ta - I need one then! Not having Bluetooth Audio in a £37k car is bad enough but having to control via the iPhone is plain embarrassing. Now to see if I can score one on eBay for a reasonable price...

A word of warning; I had 2 non BMW cables off eBay and neither were reliable, would drop connection, not recognise phone etc, eventually bit the bullet and bought one from BMW and an Apple 30-pin to lightning adapter and haven't had a problem since.

Not a cheap way to do it unfortunately but you get what you pay for I guess...

If your car has the USB socket in the arm rest, you can just plug in an old iPod using its normal ipod --> usb cable. No need to buy new cables for your iPhone.

Depends if you want to update music at the drop of a hat, I guess

Why bother leaving an iPod in the car or forgetting it ?
Just bung your music onto a usb stick and leave it in the car.
You don't stop playing when you get old - You get old when you stop playing!
So I bought a 35is with all the toys to play with.
