Most of them aren't bothered, the last time I checked the ABI list I think it was only Swiftcover, Southern Rock and eCar who wanted to be notified.

Most won't be bothered until you make a claim, if your car is written off you can bet if a BMW that came with runflats they will check. If you notify them of change to standard tyres and to record it on their system and send you a copy of your insurance schedule with change there's no dispute. I notified my insurance when I swapped from summer tyres to all seasons on the Z3.

I don't trust insurers who will use any small print to wriggle out a claim.

Tim.

For the sake of a little hassle - inform them
Not doing so and then having a claim could cause you major stress and seriously out of pocket if they decline to pay out (which technically they can as the car has been modified beyond Manufacturer's settings/equipment

"The tyres must be used in the correct driving conditions and be suitable for your vehicle. "

Who is the judge of a non run-flat being suitable for our zeds if BMW don't approve them?

Thanks for all the replies.

Could this mean that you need winter tyres to suit the correct driving conditions?
You don't stop playing when you get old - You get old when you stop playing!
So I bought a 35is with all the toys to play with.

It would be good if forum sponsor Chris Nott Insurance gave there opinion about this.

Updated.
Just read on another thread Chris Nott would need to be told so they can inform the insurer.
