I just remove mine physically, takes 10 minutes. Super sure they'll never find it nor will it cause a problem then!

Do you think the pins and the mechanism on the connectors is man enough to be set and unset?

Spoke with the dealer today. A software update outside warranty is £99

Software update will put latest software on all modules. This could mean fixes for all over the car or shite all that you'd ever notice.

If BMW were cunning like Apple they would make sure that your pride and joy would be useless after so many years and that any software updates can only be added to cars less than 5 years old.
