Re: wheel change query
Tyre pressure sensors from what I know are only fitted on US models.
Here in Europe the system used the abs sensors to detect a rolling speed difference.
So fit whatever you fancy.

Not sure about the e89 but if its the same as my Z, 1 series or my mums 3 series then maniac is right its done by the rotational speed by the abs here.

Re: wheel change query
On the 1 Series Pre week 10 2014 use the ABS system for the TPMS, post week 10 BMW use indivdial wheel sensors, I'm unsure if this is the case across the BMW range though including the E89. If yours is post week 10 build I would ask your dealer and give them your chassis number to check. If you go aftermarket wheels and you need individual wheel sensors you will get the TPMS error and the warning bong all the time without them. Pre week 10 you will be OK. A set of 4 sensors are around 200 quid. If you do have individual wheel sensors you could alway swap them over to the new wheels but a bit if a faff. Unsure if you went for a BMW set of winter wheels if they already come with the sensors if required.

Silver valve cap, individual sensors. The actual valves look completely different. As Tim say,£200 for the valves. Have to sort some out myself
