The Z4 35i Has gone, roll on the 123d :(

The 123d is being delivered tomorrow morning so I'll post back with some comments once I've driven it properly. Hoping to get more thab 35mpg out of it - had sooner kept the 35i!

On the plus side ive been driving an Alfa Romeo Guilietta 1.6 JTDM (104hp) all this week so it should be a better comparison, I've become acclimatised to the diesel way of life so the 123d may feel brisk in comparison to this!

Had a chance to have a play around and take the 123d for a short drive and I've got to say I'm quite pleased with it!

Power delivery is much more linear than a single turbo diesel and as such it benefits to rev it more - similar to a petrol engine with a smaller rev range. Performance wise it is actually pretty good, lots of shove low down and pulled smoothly up to the NSL. The ride is pretty damn firm but it feels nicely balanced and dare i say it but the steering feel is nicer than my Zed!?

After my initial dread about the change im quietly happy and itll nicely do for my 5am commute!

I'll be back in a z4 one day though!

In case anyone stumbles on this during a search, thought I'd add that I've now had the remaped by Jason at BWChip Tune - his team were fantastic and had it up on a rolling road, (produced 201.9hp standard)

Now producing 259Bhp and 360lbft of torque and feels like a different car, very impressed and thoroughly recommended. It's still no Z35i but the map has certainly closed the gap and in gear acceleration is mighty impressive now!

I just traded my old trusty 120d Coupe M Sport for a 2.5 Zed and what a difference...the Zed is tons more fun in every department. Actually the sound of my 120D was much better. But that can be remedied with time.

Did I hear that right you prefer the sound of a noisy diesel to a 2.5litre straight six?

Ha don't remind me of the noise, I've taken to driving with the window up and the radio on (LOUD).

Sometimes I make car noises when I accelerate to make me feel better.
