Internet

Post by HillWalker » Mon Sep 29, 2014 10:41 pm

Having just added the media package option to my 35is that I ordered a few weeks ago I notice that there is also an internet option for £95, what does this actually get you? obviously an internet connection, but how, and for how long, is it something anyone on here as specified as I've not heard anyone mention it. Apologies if this sounds a silly question to all you people in the know, but my grasp of modern technology is not great. Thanks

Good question. I bought an ex demo 28i 2 years ago with Internet already installed, getting anybody to explain just what you get was difficult!

Basically you get to launch Google on the Idrive screen and from there on into the full internet. It works from a SIM card buried somewhere in the car. The £95 gives you free internet access for 3 years, ie the car warranty period. Doesn't work while the car is in motion.

I guess it's reasonably cheap, but I found it very slow and, for me, not something I really need in a car. I think I used it twice in 2 years so I wouldn't bother again.

I do like the google search facility when on the move, not only can you find a phone number en route to somewhere but you can also find an address and it will load it onto the sat nav and you can get directions. I use it for when its getting on a bit and I still have places to go to find out when they are open to.

I didn't think that I would use it but I find that as I have its a nice little feature.

I don't think I will subscribe when mine runs out..it's a novelty I think I can do without. I haven't really used mine in the two years Ive owned the car.
£120 for three years would have been ok but not for one year give the use its had.
