Re: Bought a Z4 35is
Not surprised OP wants to improve the performance of a 35iS, coming from a 911 C2S! Must be one of the best sports cars around at present. Quite a hard act to follow i would imagine.

Re: Bought a Z4 35is
I do agree with this comment in that you get used to the new performance level after while. However there must come a point where a car becomes scarily fast. My zed is fast but i don't find it scarily fast. I reckon once one is getting a 0-60 of low 4s or lower then one would probably find that too fast...Re: Bought a Z4 35is

I think you feel that with any fast car to begin with. When I first got into my 320d from a ford focus I couldn't believe how much power was available. It felt like a rocket ship. 6 months later I was getting a remap done.
Same story with the 35i. Initially you think "wow I can't see how any more power would be useful, this things a rocket" but after a few months you're back to researching power upgrades.

This is it really, I have come from a 2011 C2S PDK which is a amazing car. Its a little be like dating a reasonably good looking girl with a nice personally after you have been ****ing a hot stripped for the last few yearsZed_Steve wrote:Not surprised OP wants to improve the performance of a 35iS, coming from a 911 C2S! After taking the car out for a drive today I now understand that its not going to be a good idea to put more power into it, as others have said it can only just put down the power it has now forget about any more.

Re: Bought a Z4 35is
What tyres does the car currently have?
If it's still on runflats then it will be a wild ride even without a remap!
You got a seriously good deal on the car. Was it from a private seller? Did you have to knock them down on price a lot?

Its on Run Flats now.
I got it from a private seller seller, he started asking 27k and reduced to 24.5k I offered 22k which he accepted.

22 is a big drop from 27.
He must have been offered a terrible trade-in value to take that offer.

The used values are bound to plummet because of the brand new deals available. Who's going to pay high £20's for used when brand new is £32/33k?

Re: Bought a Z4 35is
This is the issue I had. I have ruined many a good car trying to squeeze more out when it just doesn't suit it. I think the 35iS is one of those - the difference being I will leave it alone and enjoy it for what it is ... a hugely fast but not supercar fast means of having fun !normantooh wrote:After taking the car out for a drive today I now understand that its not going to be a good idea to put more power into it, as others have said it can only just put down the power it has now forget about any more.Zed_Steve wrote:Not surprised OP wants to improve the performance of a 35iS, coming from a 911 C2S! Re: Bought a Z4 35is
But for high 20s you get goodie loaded usually but for 32/33k new you get jack all and would have to put at least 10-11k if not more in some cases to get a similar spec. Each to their own though.original guvnor wrote:The used values are bound to plummet because of the brand new deals available. Who's going to pay high £20's for used when brand new is £32/33k?
Plus as they are stopping building them from next month and only 224 currently registered at last count in the UK they aren't exactly all over the place. Infact there is 969 Z4Ms coups and roasters on the roads in the UK and a further 58 SORN so whilst people say about the M values being held by the small production numbers there are a lot less of the 35is and there won't ever be lots and lots for sale at any one time unless we all decide to chop them in at the same time.

Which could make it rarer than the revered 1m coupe. Think there are 300 odd registered in the uk and they are holding their value. Also the zed has a quicker 0-60!Angie4m wrote:Plus as they are stopping building them from next month and only 224 currently registered at last count in the UK they aren't exactly all over the place. Re: Bought a Z4 35is
By the end of the year we will know how many are registered in the UK the figure of 224 is the figure for quarter 1 so until 31st March 2014, which was an increase of 14 cars since 31st December 2013 and it was an increase of 14 car prior to that. It may well hit 300 odd but possibly not given that the offer is running from June to September, along with a stop in production.matthurley wrote:Which could make it rarer than the revered 1m coupe. Re: Bought a Z4 35is
Thought I would jump in on this one as I was couldn't resist temptation back in April this year. My comments may tempt a few more to take the plunge??
Swapped my 2011 23i M-Sport (Highline) for one of the 35is cars that were being offered on the BMW website. There were 5 or 6 high spec Valencia Orange 35is cars for sale with low mileage all registered by BMW and used for promo work. My car was registered in July 2013 but had only 13 miles on the clock when I picked it up!! Building the car on the BMW configurator to the same spec came out at £51500 (way toooo expensive). I Paid a little over £35000!!
Car has now done 5000 miles due to long road trip to Europe (2850 miles) in July. Averaged 36mpg with some steady motorway runs and some spirited driving on a number of alpine passes.
Likes: Almost everything! The colour (WOW!!!) - noise - ride quality (adaptive suspension in normal mode is much more refined than 23i was) - fun factor and "popping" exhaust in sport mode - very few 35is around!! Dislikes: Not a lot but I'd like it to be a little less thirsty on short trips (22/23mpg) but what the hell!!!
If anyone gets the chance to get into a 35is - take it! Its a totally brilliant car!! Once I work out how to do it I'll get a picture up as it looks Ab-Fab in Valencia Orange.
Result!!!

Re: Bought a Z4 35is
You're right. Better roads (I think) on the continent but couldn't believe the difference in the 35is than in the 23i. Much more comfortable and smooth. Real plus in the E89 as with the roof up its a very classy tourer.Zed_Steve wrote:Looks great in that colour!
