Brand new 35Is for £32k

Hi all.

I just got back form the Sheffield BMW dealer and they have a 35Si for £32k with delivery miles and I think you can get a few k off the asking price.

Poverty spec but It makes a used one at £25k look expensive.

150 delivery miles? I would be rejecting a car that had that if supposedly new.

I would hazard a guess that you would be the second owner (i.e. not strictly new), probably a lightly used demonstrator car.

It's easy to add £10k+ in options to these cars, I'm not sure I would be at all tempted by this one to be honest.

Better IMHO to find one that someone has hardly used, but spent a fortune selecting every option in the book - then buy that 2nd hand when the options are worth next to nothing on the price.

Unless they actually will discount the sticker price - may as well stick with a broker and get an actually 'brand new' car for the same money.

its a bit low spec but the price is ok and you could have it within a short period of time.... i would try and haggle a bit more off

As echoed it can't be called brand new and it would be sold as approved used as it is on the website. You can't list a new car as approved used, clues in the name. Unfortunately with these cars people want and expect a decent spec and inevitably in the long run the resale value of the car can be effected by the fact that this car won't be as desirable to a customer as one that's fully loaded or at least has a few more toys on it. It's always the lesser spec'd cars that hang around a while, whilst the decent spec ones go rather quickly.

There would possibly be a bit of negotiation to be had on price but not much I wouldn't think considering the discounts available ordering to your spec. Plus they'll just quite this cost £47,750 new so it's already heavily discounted so they won't budge much, if at all.

What you also need to keep in mind with other used prices of other ones for sale is the recent discounts have been just that a and haven't been around for long. The discounts are due to stop at the end of this month and as the 35is is actually quite a rare car it holds it's value well because there aren't many on the used market. People 4 months ago would have paid top dollar for their car and you can't expect it to be worth less than half that 4 months later because BMW decided to discount a handful of cars in that model range. Market value doesn't work like that and bmw most certainly won't undersell a car they know they can get the asking price or for a little under it.

I am having a similar debate at the moment:
A new 35is with no options for £32k.
Or a one year old, £7k+ of options, available now, 10k miles for £31k.

The latter is really appealing...

IMO not a great colour and no 19" wheels ... doesn't do it for me even if I did pay only 6K less for a 3 year old one with 28 on the clock.

Surely these deals in the medium term are going to destroy 35iS residuals? If you can buy one for £32k new (which several people seem to have done) that rebases prices. Not a problem for recent purchasers but a bitter pill for those who paid a lot more a couple of years ago.

I agree that the one listed is not for me and I would want a bit of spec. Actually I want a used one because I dont want to keep it for too long but I just can't bring my self to pay £25k for a used car when a new one is only a few thousand more. A 3 year old car should be around 40% cheaper then new plus a little bit for the optional extras, so around £20k for a used Si sound about right to me.

As others have said a bit light on spec. Broadspeed have these listed at 32,047 - this one has comfort pack & heated sets - so £1500 on top.

32k for second hand versus 33.5k brand new one owner etc.

Plus you get to spec up to your requirements.

This one would need to be sub 30k for it to be appealing - even then without the navigation it would still not be for me.

It is more the 326M alloys - or lack of - I suppose you could buy them but that must be maybe £3500 - £4000 ??

I could - and do - live without Nav ... but then that colour !

As i said I agree this one is crap but my point was with such huge discounts on new why are the used ones so expensive?

re the 236M alloys, you can get them on ebay for £1 to £1.5k

I think the question has been answered here already to be honest.

Personally I bought mine as a 2 1/2 yr old car (last year), 19k miles, no sign of use & perfect.

With just about every option possible (19" 326 wheels with new tyres / heated seats / heated steering / comfort pack / NAV / Media upgrades / front & rear parking beepers / other little bits I can't remember now) including a 2 year fully comprehensive warranty. List for my spec was just shy of £60k, only paid £28k.

IMHO that's where the bargain is when buying used - go for maximum spec.

I price a car as what it costs buying - minus what it costs when selling.

I'm expecting to get out of the e89 next June after putting the milage up to 35k ish, expecting to get something like £24k for it.

So the cost of the car is £2k per year... or approx £160 per month of ownership - very happy with that.
