New 35is or New 28i (with Nav) (Update)

Post by Greer4411 » Fri Jul 25, 2014 8:41 pm

Hi Guys,

After PX my 23i E89 for M135i 18 months ago. I cant live with the looks of the 1 series any more, so spoke to my dealer and good news is good equity in my car and with the good deals on z4s at the mom. i cant get either a z4 m sport 28i with all the bells and nav or a standard 35is with a few options (heated seats, steering wheel, mirrors folding) without changing my payments etc.

my heart wants the 35is (but can i live without the nav and the 19"s)

what you guys reckon

Jamie

insist on 35is with Nav and everything else… simple

Buy what you want not what they want

follow your heart before you regret it

I bought a 35iS without Nav and with 19" wheels as that was all I could afford. I have had Nav on my last 4 cars and tbh I don't use it that much but it was always handy.

I had the option of this car without Nav or, unlike my last fully spec'd E92 330d LCI, a hard drive to play my music and went for it. Do I regret it ... err, no ! Nav is handy but you can do without - and for the engine and exhaust note it is worth it !

19" wheels look good and mine 326M seem fine. The ride is far better than a 35i without adaptive suspension I tried on 19's (albeit a different style). I actually find the 35iS quite a comfy place to be.

Now, there is nothing wrong with a 28i and I would suggest you drive one ... but then get a 35iS

If I went back to an E89 from my M135i I would have to spec the adaptive suspension as the 1er drives and handles on a different scale to the E89, only downside then is without the iDrive on the E89 it feels a little dated being an E series. I would ditch the nav and go for the 35i with Adaptive and non runflats. AIthough I miss the Zeds looks I don't miss the drive and refinement compared to the 1er but then I'am comparing it to the 2.0 4 pot I had previously :)

Why not look at the 235i if looks concern you lol.

Tim.

28i would be a step back in performance - so you'd likely miss it. It's less likely you'll miss nav and other random bits. Can't you swap the folding mirrors on the 35is with the 19" alloys? would have though the price differential would be minimal...

How do you find the space inside the M135i. I sat in one a while back and found it smaller than I expected. I got an E89 and feel there is loads of room to stretch out - but then maybe I am an odd shape  :D

Sorry, misunderstood part of your post earlier - I thought you didn't like the 19's but misread it !

I am afraid I think they really make the car ... so would try to go for them at the expense of something else if possible - but not the engine !

Engine first then gadgets later. The nav is nice but not as nice as a 6 cylinder engine.

You can always throw a sat nav on the dash at the drop of a hat if you need one. You can't do that with the engine.

Others have said, push for a big six with the nav. If you fail, get a portable sat nav.

So I bought a 35is with all the toys to play with.

I've had sat nav in the last few cars I've had as standard, for the times I've used it I can't see me paying the extra for it when I come to order the Z4, I'll just get one of these with free lifetime updates http://www.halfords.com/sat-nav-audio/s ... ern-europe

The only extras I'll get are 19" alloys, parking sensors and paint!

It's not just nav, it's all the car info system you get with the media screen. I wouldn't be without it. I've had E89s with and without.

OK I haven't had a 35is but I do currently have a 28i, it's enough, after all consider the legal limits on our roads.

It's not about burning off teenagers in cheap cars.

It's about burning off everyone.

35is - it's the future :D

The 28i is a really nice 'normal' car with great performance. The 35is has 'specialness' that elevates it a bit above the normal & makes you smile.

Don't look at the numbers (or the price) - they don't get the point across. You need to try one & see for yourself.

I understand that a lot of people just don't care, if that is you then I guess you would be happy with either car. I didn't think I cared either until I tried them. As you have a choice to make, forget about forums & drive them both. You will be gutted if you buy the wrong one!

Surely if we use that argument we would all be driving 1.0 3cyl cars. Even they can break every speed limit in the UK.

Although my 3.0 isn't slow, I sometimes wish I had waited for a 35i with the same spec.
