It said "Ford" not "Flood". Fords are supposed to be passable by motor vehicles.

OP, if you get the impression that BMW aren't playing with a straight bat, it might be worth getting the car recovered to a reputable Indy for a second opinion. If you go through the insurers I'd expect that they'd want to collate a few opinions anyway.

Thanks for the comments guys ... I spoke to the garage again ... looks like they are busy with year end and month end - and it will only be Monday before they can look at my car.
Spoke to my insurer - they said to hold it claiming anything till I get a quote back on Monday.
This will be a long weekend - I hope it is just damp electronics!

Re: z4 engine stalled in a ford (water)-- next steps
I did this many years ago with a Peugeot 306 Diesel. The car was written off due to the engine being Hydraulic'd.
I bough the car back from the insurance company and upon delivery they driver managed to start it and drive it off the transporter.
My point is the engine was still knackered even though it ran, so being able to turn it over proves nothing.

Guys got a call back from the dealer .. They are saying they had a look it had a lot of water but doesnt look like there is damage to the engine .. But air filter got soaked and there was water in oil .. So they will replace it .. Do extensive road test and engine balancing test and hopefully it will be fine.
So fingers crossed!!
And i was booked in for a service on Wednesday and he asked me if they should go ahead with servicing if everything is fine.. I might be reading between the lines but that made me happy as it sound like they are expecting things to be fine.
What do you guys think based on the new info?

Bet you'll be looking at alternative routes in future.
I decided to take a few different routes after the last 3 months of rain, glad I did after reading this

So many people do this. There have been sooo many cars going through the auctions recently with knackered engines due to people driving through flooded roads.
People need to be educated on the matter imo. I don't think people realise what happens to the engine when water gets sucked in. Pistons moving at high speed and water enters and can't be compressed=catastrophic engine damage!

Re: z4 engine stalled in a ford (water)-- next steps
Look elsewhere on this site, i drove through what i thought was a shallow flood. Anyway what happened the filter got soaked with water. First open up the air filter box and see if the filters wet, either dry out or buy another. It seemed to stop the water getting any further into engine and stop a hydraulic lock.
Didn't read what you have already done..doh!
Part problem is the intake is above the radiator so any splashing at the front goes straight up into air intake.
Like me accept the fact it aint a submarine!
