Cabriomodule Roof Fitment - Roof Module Error

Hi

Just fitted a Cabriomodule roof comfort module which is meant to allow the roof to open and close via one touch instead of holding the button down manually.

Followed the instructions to the letter but now the roof is stuck halfway with error message 'Roof Module Failure' even though wiring back to normal.

Does anyone have any advice as to how to initialise the roof or is it a dealer job?

The module is no longer connected to the car.

Many thanks.

You could have shorted a pin and damaged something on the BMW roof module in the process. As far as I know there is no way to reset the roof manually - or indeed move it manually.

You could try disconnecting and reconnecting the power to the BMW roof module a few times, see if that resets it.

One last thing - did you remember to put the luggage compartment divider into the correct position (closed) after installing the module?? The installation instructions for most modules require you to half-open the roof then move the luggage divider into the open position - this is normally an error state for the BMW module as it is not allowed to move the roof package with that cover open.

There was a similar thread on ZPost a while back but ended up a dealer job. Shot in the dark but have you tried disconnecting the battery and leaving for 10 mins and trying again.

I still fancy a Smart top but these stories put me off.

Tim.

Thanks for the suggestions. Is there any risk causing other issues by disconnecting the battery?
I understand the batteries are coded to the car and could this be lost?
Appreciate your help!

I dont think disconnecting the battery would cause a problem, just been looking at the web site for this module it seems more fiddly to install than the smart top which is plug and play are you sure the wires have been correctly re instated

Phew ! Sorted the large multi pin connector
hadn't seated properly put a bit of weight behind it and moved
It from side to side. And it clipped into place.
Then the roof led started flashing and hey presto roof now works
I'm not messing with this car again.

Good news, a bit of a heart stopping moment :o I think this was also a problem with the Smart Top in that the connector needs a good push to get in to click together otherwise it causes a malfunction.

Glad its sorted.
