LUX H8 180 Angel Eyes [INSTALLED]

Post by sunnydays » Tue Dec 05, 2017 11:08 pm

Hey guys,

So I bit the bullet and went for the LUX angel eyes, I had the amber halos before but felt these looked dull and dated in terms of aesthetics. So I did some research and looked at various brands, it appeared that LUX are the brightest / best quality drop in solution short of having a full headlight modification. There were other alternatives but some of these for example needed parts of the bulb outside of the headlight housing which means they would not be sealed properly via the covers, some seemed to have crap reviews / burn out and really I didn't want to risk any sort of damage to the headlights from the angel eye bulbs.

The LUX are fairly expensive, so I had high expectations. I got round to installing these today after work, after reading all the E9XX installation threads and comments I expected this to be a pain, but it really was very fast, I can only assume the E89 headlight design is more spacious / easier access than the E9XX counterparts. Install took around 20 minutes.

I turned them on and wow, they are bright, seriously bright! So bright I cant look straight at them. These really show how dull the stock halos are. These are bright and fill out the halos with a nice strong pure white. Unfortunately it was dark by the time I had installed so I have not taken any day time pics as of yet, but I will soon.

Here is an image post install outside, note: I had to turn the camera exposure all the way down due to these being so bright to capture these, this makes the ring on the left look more dull than it actually is.

Thanks

Hmm,
Dont see them as any brighter than the 120w ebay specials costing £20 that I had in my previous Z4.
You can see how bright they were and thats in full daylight.
TBH, the issue is, as we all know, the design of the none LCI lights. They dont let the light travel through the light tubes very effectively meaning the inner light is always brighter, no matter what LED bulb is used.

No doubt these ŵill last longer, but at the price of them you could buy 5 sets of ebay specials!

If they are too bright for you to look at will they be legal as they will surely dazzle oncoming drivers!
I bought my 180w cree halos for half the price of lux (which use the same leds). Lux are good for sure but way overpriced.

Nope, never changed a thing with the ebay specials.

They were also listed as cree bulbs...

They are not as bright as lci cars with drls. You can not look at those headon for extended periods either. Do the 180w crees fully sit inside the light housing? Or is heat an issue?

Its hard to say with out seeing side by side. But looking at the picture yours look yellowish? Additionally the lux are equivalent to 180w or such iirc. Im confident the lux will be brighter

No, they were definitely bright white, its just that I was parked in a sunny area when I took the picture.

Its all academic to me now as Ive got an LCI car.

However, if anyone is looking for a cheap LED conversion to try before spending bigger money on the lux 180s, I would highly recommend the ebay specials at £20!

Fitting is very easy as long as you remember that one of them tightens anti clockwise

Yup, literally a 10 minute job.
Decent room as you go in from above on the lamp unit.
