There are lots spread through the thread. I'll try and repost them all in one place later.

Mike
Any exhaust mods to the 2.0 turbo mike?

The best mod for your exhaust Rob would be a bigger down pipe from the turbo. And then bigger bore and better flowing silencers. With that and a tune i bet you would get much quicker spooling more torque and power. After turbo restrictions can really cut down on power and how quickly a turbo can spin up.
My little blue zed is in lots of bits. With lots of things started and not many finished! I may have found the limits of my time and ability!!

Thanks mat but I meant have you carried out any mods to the 2litre yourself? I'm curious what effect the small front box makes when it's removed/modded?

Depending on its make up there could be a performance gain from removing it. Especially if it hinders flow. The better the flow closer to the turbo the better.

Never done any work to them.

I think I'm now committed to going down the dual rear system, 35i style. Not trying to make out it's something it's not, I just prefer that look.

So .... got the centre silencer removed today.

Drove it home. Definitely more low down chatter. Performance seems the same at the moment with a little more throttle response. But marginal.

It is not loud by any stretch of the imagination vs. My mini fjcw but it does sound more aggressive.

More to follow once I have driven more ! But for 100 bucks definitely worth it for a laugh :)?

Sounds like an improvement over standard, any chance you could post a sound clip for us?

I sure can. Will head out later and do it.

It is a definitive improvement over standard and a more measured upgrade vs a full system.

Update, cold start this morning in comfort mode, car is definitely louder, turbo spool is also louder for some reason (maybe someone can tell me why)
in sport and sport + it chatters a lot, it sounds a bit strange, maybe I just need to get used to it, but has lots of depth, growl and chatter low down but little difference up the rev range ( maybe someone can tell me why also)

Verdict is do it guys  try it out for 100 quid you cant go wrong and it 100% makes a difference probably not as much as I would have thought/hoped from doing this on other cars but good enough fun.

Exhaust modification

Post by dvd112 » Sun Oct 22, 2017 2:06 pm

Hello, sorry it took so long to post the video. I have been running the mid section delete for a few weeks now.

It’s sounding good, no drone. Not so loud and difficult to hear under load. Turbo whine is louder though.

Cold start is good, throaty and does sound similar to my old mini r56 fjcw. It will pop and bang - loudly - but post cold start it’s quietens down a lot.

Below I have a video of a warm start. I think the flap in the exhaust is still closed. But it gives an idea of the sound. Next up I am going to do the exhaust flap mod. Update to follow.

It’s really hard to tell from a video how it sounds in real life, but it’s pleasing to hear that it’s not droning!

I’ll get mine done soon! I want the farts on upshifts to be louder and a few more pops on overrun!
