Yep, I think if the damage is within the wipers swept area on the drivers side it's replacement screen time :(
Don't forget to insist on a genuine bmw seal as the pattern ones give plenty of trouble!

That's really nasty and so frustrating when it happens. It doesn't matter how careful you are if you are in the wrong place there's no escape.
