thanks for the insight. I hope it all goes to plan and you manage to stay in budget. As I'm sure anyone who's ever undertaken any sort of car project knows costs can soon get out of hand. Good Luck with it!Skinny 86 wrote: ↑Fri May 19, 2017 10:53 amThe cost depends on how far you want to go with it, i.e things like digital dash, interior heating module, and if you want thinks like the brake cooling ducts.
Lot's of the things are a part number of the championship which is a pain but also means that there is good monitoring of foul play etc and makes the racing closer. The last championship we raced in this was not at the forefront of the championship and let it down.
We are probably into about 30 hours work so far at the most but as we get the parts that will increase.
Cost wise can vary but probably £12k+ on parts. we are going pretty comprehensive so will be the higher end of cost prob closer to £17-£18k
Hope we can have the car ready for a shake down in august/September but may be pushing it...

For racing and the amount of hardware you get for that that's probably still cheap, but I can imagine that people are put off by that because initially you start racing with a car that costs 3k to begin with.
Too bad that for this year only a couple of z's showed up. It looks like a good chassis for racing: 2 seat car, still fairly light for the amount of power, cheap car to begin with etc. Usually that would be a key to success in the UK (looking at all the caterham style cups over the years)
I think if they could bring the parts list down to 5k (ex tyres) it would be more of a succes.

What sort of costs are involved for the Z3? I think they are both great platforms for racing.

Bit of an update following some further work on the car over the last few weekends.
Engine is now out the car. proved to be easier thank expected, we took the engine and box out all in one go which made things alot easier.
Then had to strip everything out the engine bay and i mean everything and give it a good clean (Neat TFR worked rather well) Car is being painted now.
We have taken the car to Jack @ Cosmic Colours Motorsport based in Binfield (In partnership with BODYTONE)
We are having the cage engine bay and all internal areas of the car painted in the below colour which is actually an Audi colour.. Reason for this colour is it is a good clean colour so if we get any leaks etc we will be able to notice them quickly and identify where they are coming from.

Cage is now prepped and we paint goes on wednesday so hopefully will have some pics by thursday of the car all nicely painted. Then we start the task of fitting solid flywheel new clutch LSD and start to fit all the new bushes etc and send off all the other parts front subframe etc for powder coating.
Few more pics below. Hopfully will start taking photos of all the little bits from the car we can start getting rid of now... have literally everything for sale so if anyone needs bits please PM me. and If I have it can sort something out.
Hope you are enjoying the thread.

Nice to see someone starting from nothing there Skinny.
I don't know if its of any interest but the Classic Sports Car Club with who I have raced previously have a relatively new section they call "New Millennium" which is for cars post 2000, the Z4 would fit in there very nicely I think and the guys at CSCC are real nice guys and they do what they can to accommodate even if the car doesn't quite fit they will usually accept the entry.

Thank you I'm Director of the CSCC and the Z4 does indeed fit perfectly into class C of the RSV Graphics New Millennium Series. I have chatted to Gary Feakin about the idea.Boris wrote: ↑Tue May 30, 2017 12:51 pm Nice to see someone starting from nothing there Skinny.

More cars are virtually finished for Z cars so we will see more of them out as the season progresses.

It looks like the rear stays of the cage are picking up on the rear turrets, any photographs of that Dave?Skinny 86 wrote: ↑Tue May 30, 2017 1:00 pmThanks BorisBoris wrote: ↑Tue May 30, 2017 12:51 pm Nice to see someone starting from nothing there Skinny.

Skinny
Are you not triangulating the cage into the front turrets as well? this adds a lot of stiffness under braking?
