Clutching at straws I know but is it possible to get a 2nd key from anywhere other than BMW? The local key cutter says no.

If not what kind of price should I be prepared for!!?

Are you in London? Check out a guy called BMKeys, based in east London. I think he's on eBay.

Do you not have a second key at all or do you have one its just that it wont open the doors etc.
If that's the case the rechargeable battery inside can be replaced, their about a fiver on ebay and require a little bit of soldering to fit.

I don't have a 2nd key at all. The one I've got now is manual (no remote) so i'll probably leave that as a spare once I've got a new remote one sorted. I just don't like having just the one!

Go see Ben, or post your GM5 off to him.

Is it sometimes that the rechargeable battery hasn't failed and it's just gone flat and needs to be used to charge it up?

I'd have thought a few hundred miles of driving would be enough to charge it up again?

I'm assuming BMKeys would need to have my car/key to supply a key? If so I don't fancy posting off my only key...

I did wonder about the GM5 unit.. Think i'll get a spare key first as I need one anyway (just in case), which will help work out if the GM5 is faulty. If it is i'll have to get that sorted next.
