Xenon light question

Could someone with xenon lights (mine is a Z4 M Coupe) please let me know what should be happening at the two switch positions (ignoring auto) and when I flick the main beam on?

What I mean is this:

1 - sidelights only (both halos on both sides illumunated)
2 - as above + dipped beam (outer lamp only)
2a - when main beam switched on then halos are on plus dipped beam (outside lamp) flicks to main bean plus the inside lamps illuminate.....

Is this how it should work?

I appear to have no power to the inside (main beam) lights at all as I don't get halos or main bean at any time, could it be a fuse, if so where do I find it?

Thanks,
Darren.

Thanks, does anyone know if the main beams are on a separate fuse? And why would there be 2 halos and only one lit?

yep think so... cj10jeeper modded his from scratch in order to get 2 each side..

On US spec, inner lights are dummies but the halos are on for DRL. The main light feeds the halos, that's why only the inner two light without the main lights on. In other words, the main light halos are only a light pipe feed off the main bulb.

Can someone in the UK confirm/deny the "inner lights are dummies" for me?

I think this might be the case since neither lights nor halos do anything on both sides which would seem an unusual thing to happen all at the same time....

Thanks,
Darren.

The inside projectors are dummys; and only the inside ring will work (only has 1 halo each side) The outside halo is fake.

Full beam uses the same outside dipped beam light but i think some internal reflector moves to make it brighter and angled up more.

If you want to be accurate dipped works on the xenon by raising a shutter in front of the lower edge of the beam. Since the beam is inverted through the lens (think pinhole camera) this has the effect of cutiing off the light to the top right and thus creating a dipped effect. For 'main' the shutter drops allowing the full spread of the beam. Same power and btightness regardless
