Lowered springs - which ones ???

Hi all.

I have noticed on this forum that many people seem to have gone for the Eibach pro springs (-30mm). My question is how do these compare with other springs as i am about to make a purchase.

There isnt a huge difference cost wise, but was interested to know why everybody seems to go for the Eibach versions as i have found the following:-

Eibach £189.00
Spax £169.00
Supersport £152.00

There are cheaper however i want to steer clear of any brand on ebay that i havent heard of.

Any information would be appreciated - Thanks!

As you have the 3.0 then IIRC it'll only lower it a further 15mm.

IMO If you're going for aftermarket then stick with Eibach.

H&R have a good reputation :

Just posted this link on the ride height poll thread.

Out of those I'd say Eibach (as a brand) have the best reputation - and I'm not saying that just because I have them. Spax have an OK reputation AFAIK but not in the same league as Eibach: I can't remember who, but some manufacturers spec Eibach springs as part of suspension packages on their cars. I haven't heard of Supersport before.

The H&Rs that ali_b mention also have a great reputation, same brand quality if not better than Eibach IMO. I had adjustable H&R coilovers on a previous car (total overkill for the car and my driving!) but the quality of manufacture and also quality of ride was incredibly good.

Yup, listen to Ally.

Basically Eibach and H&R are responsible between them for most prestige car manufacturers sport suspension springs. They are also both suppliers to Formula 1 for example.

For example, Brabus and AMG spring kits are made by H&R exclusively.

Eibach makes for Audi and Lambo.

Either will do the job well and are markedly better than the rubbish that BMW put on (see the broken springs thread!)

in that case its the Eibachs then, like i said in the original post, not much in it cash wise. I will get them ordered in the next day or two.

thanks to those who had an input ! cheers

This place sell the Eibachs for £165 posted: http://www.motorsportworld.co.uk/detprod.asp?productcode=E10-20-010-01-22&PID=885382 (hope the link works). Good company to deal with in my experience too.

The only other springs they list for Z4s are the Spax, Supersport and Weitec (who I've heard of but don't know anything about).

Cheers A11y ! good job i didnt order them before i saw your link. Just saved me 20 sheets. Much Appreciated...

Does anybody know the tools required to do the job ?. my mate is fitting them and he hasnt installed them on a Z4 as he is more a VW enthusiast. Could do to know what i need prior to him turning up to do the work.

Thanks !

IIRC there's instruction in the how-to section.

on that basis, anybody have a rough idea on cost ? And can reccommend anybody to do it in the manchester or the east yorkshire area ?

thanks

easty027, the car looks really sweet... are you on standard 3.0 springs at the moment? I only ask as it looks low - maybe just because the rims fill the archs so nicely

From people's recent posts I think a "Hunter" machine is what you need to seek out (if no-one knows someone near you). IIRC CJ found a centre for someone - maybe try looking for the Hunter (manufacture of the alignment machines - but you probably know that!) and seeing if they have a list of centres?

Interested to see how you go... think I'm keeping my car (no M  ) and want to have a personalise a little. Was thinking about getting the alignment done anyway, but definitely will now having heard the reports from others on the forum.

ADDITION: Here you go mate, http://www.alignmycar.co.uk/ (got here via the UK Hunter distributor's web site)
"To find a map and facilities at your local Hunter equipped centre, simply type in your town or postcode, then click on the 'search' button."

For people outside the UK - http://www.hunter.com/PUB/internat/countries.cfm - this will give the distributor in your country and hopefully a list of centres.

Yep, Hunter machines seem to be used by the folk with the best reputation in my local(ish) area. I guess there are other ones just as good though. But, it's more down to the competence of the user/mechanic than the type of machine! I use a bloke I trust because he's been doing it for decades and it's what he does most: he is a small unit with 2 ramps/lifts but he turns down other work to focus on alignment because that's "what he does".

I hit a massive pothole on Monday - knowing my luck it's probably knackered my recently-done alignment :x

When did you get it done last? It all depends on what work your car requires, but you're probably looking at around £80-£120. I did mine in the summer when I changed to M wheels. The work I required cost £120 (though I haggled it down to £80 cash :D )

Many thanks for the info. It does fill the arches nicely on the drivers side as the rear spring is broken on the drivers side rear. The passenger side does sit a little higher at the minute because of it. I am assuming that having the alignment done means you can feel the difference in the handling ? is it much better ?

Brilliant, there is a centre 5 miles from work. i will give them a call. Thanks again.
