EML code and Oxygen sensor warning

Post by skurup » Sun Dec 03, 2017 6:40 pm

Hey guys,

Need help with something.
I recently got an EML and Service Engine Soon warning on my 2005 Z4 2.5i. When I tried to diagnose with an OBD2 adaptor, I got this error code: P0141 Powertrain O2 Sensor Heater circuit (Bank 1 Sensor 2). Do any of you guys know whether O2 sensor fault causes the EML to show up on the dashboard? Because I don't find any other specific error codes related to throttle position sensor or anything.

Any help is appreciated.

Think that's a post cat sensor, which is an exhaust off job. O2 sensor faults will cause EML.

As above, looks like post cat sensor.

Ok. So, I suppose I don't have to worry much.
I didn't knew O2 sensors would pop the EML warning.
Is is necessary to change both the pre and post catalytic sensors in one go?
Or just the post along would do?

Thanks. Will try to change it.
Do you know how much it would cost to get it changed from a BMW service center?

Hi, this is predominantly a uk forum so you’d be better off asking your local dealer for a price (or an independent specialist)

This isn't a dealer only job, anyone who can remove an exhaust could do it. The sensors are about $150 and you don't need to touch the pre-cat. You might consider replacing both post-cats at the same time to save on labour but failure of the other isn't guaranteed at intervals, they can last well over 100k.

For future reference on this. Can the O2 sensor socket be blanked off and have the sensor just going to open air? Like the old de cat days to prevent lights flashing up.

I doubt it if the sensor is faulty. If the cat was then maybe that would work.
