Council grass cutting damaged my new car
I know that sounds like a Jeremy Kyle topic but.
Only had it two weeks! This also explains my other post requesting thing any recommendations about a body shop in Nottingham
We live adjacent to a piece of council owned grass area and path and this morning while the grass cutting was taking place I heard a loud bang. Thought nothing of it but going outside an hour later I saw a dent and a huge stone chip in the front wing of my car and a stone lying on the driveway suddenly it became obvious what had happened. I contacted the local council and they sent someone round this afternoon who took photos of the damage told me to get to quotes and they will pay and he apologised on behalf of the council. Frankly I'm in shock. I can't quite believe that they will pay for the damage that they have clearly caused without a fight.

I guess it was a rotary mower, they pick things up easily and spit them out of the side. I was mowing my back lawn once and the grass was long enough for me not to notice a hard dog chew our pet had left there. The mower picked it up and spat it out right through a double glazed panel in our french windows

You haven't got the money yet!
Make sure you list Names, Dates and Times etc. Take plenty of photos as well - Over cautious probably, but better that the alternative if they start to wriggle.

If that's what the man said go and get your quote from a BMW approved body shop.
Would they take the Mayors limo or the chief execs car to the local body shop it you'd damaged their cars?

Be ready for the solicitor ringing up and accusing you of doing the damage and the penalties for lying in court etc etc.
They try all kinds of tricks. I claimed for damage to my car from a pothole a few years ago. The claimed the road was checked in the last 12 months and that was all they were legally obliged to do. I was young at the time and fell for the bullshit.
Good luck.

I have knowledge of that !
My son in law wrecked a wheel on his car - they produced docs to show the road had been inspected - three months later the same road was relayed and resurfaced .
I knew a solicitor who had three "supposedly" identical reports submitted to him as evidence - each with a different date !
Dont believe a word they say! Be cautious in your dealings.

I am in this line of work and I am afraid its an occupational hazard.
Its mainly from strimmer use- a small stone flicked up will easily take out a window.
The last one we had at work, was someone strimming on a roundabout, caught a stone and took out the side window of a passing VW van.
The authority always pays up, no problem, so I am sure it will all be sorted soon!

Our neighbour up here in Durham had a devil of a job getting compensation for a broken window - they tried to deny liability !

Sytner have quoted £1000 a local body shop have quoted £500 and Chipsaway have quoted £220. I will push for the work to be done at Sytner as that's where I got the car from three weeks ago

A thousand pounds to repair a stone chip? Is your car covered in gold leaf perchance?
No wonder they're known as stealers....

To be fair it's a big stone chip and a small dent but yes I agree thousand pounds is frankly ridiculous

Stone chip doesn't really do it justice though? It they can smash through windows and dent body panels... more like stone dent in this case?
