Hunter wheel alignment

I've just had a hunter full wheel alignment done on my 06 3.0si the car was pulling terribly to the kerb
Really not making driving enjoyable ,
Run flats had been changed all round, and the lollipops changed by BMW
Still wasn't driving brilliantly only thing to do would be a 4 wheel alignment and see if that helps!
The nearest hunter system was at ETB in worcester so book it in for a full check over this morning. The car was miles out !!

These were the results as you can see it was all over the place only thing they couldn't get perfect was the near side front wheel but it was only out by a small margin and they told me that it would not be noticeable

So after handing over my cash I went the long way home back down the M5 the car definitely is better at speed but at low speed it still seems very heavy and wants to pull to the curb has anybody got any thoughts on what this could be

Tyre pressures, wheel balancing..?

Mine has wheel wobble over 60mph, which I think is from a bad alignment. I'm going to get it done again after swapping for Vred Vorti'd all around.

mine pulls hard too... my bushes need replacing.

my old zed did it also and i had the bushes replaced....better but still did it

I may of been a bit premature with my assessment, been out for a longer drive on better roads and the car seems to be fine, 100 percent improvement they did tell me to come back in a week so they can recheck all the alignment :grin:

Why couldn't they get the NSF camber correct? if you've got different camber angles on opposite wheels at the front, the car will turn differently L&R despite the toe angles being similar on opposite sides. Thrust angle should be Zero.

Not sure really he said there was no more adjustment on it:? Don't know why this would be the car does drive a lot better but for over a £100 you would think they could get it alright:)

Did they put the requisite weights in the boot? Classic schoolboy error on this and means your suspension won't be compressed when they do the check. Although mine ran out of adjustment on the back rather than the front when I got #69 done (Guess how I know) :(

Any suggestions why there is no adjustment left on the camber:?:
The three bolts on the top mounts fit through three slotted holes in the suspension towers, and if the location pins are still in place, then you'd expect to see camber within OEM specification. If the pins are removed, then camber can be adjusted + or -. Are the location pins still present on both/either of your top mounts?

Possibly a bent or worn component is taking the adjustment to the limit on one side.
Was it weighted as Stuart asks? Needs lots of weights in boot, both front seat and 3/4 tank of fuel. Without its never going to be correct.

Def go back for a check as its part of the service. Double check tyre pressures too before you drive in.

Guys who did mine really knew their job and road tested it twice before handing back so they were happy with end result..

Yes the car was weighted down they wanted to know my weight and weights were put in the boot and passenger side
This is how far the camber is out on the NSF wheel and is is still out

And this is the OSF wheel

All the tyre pressures were checked before i drove away

You can see that the bolts from the NSF top mount are pushed right to the outside, which will produce the least negative camber. They should remove the locating pin and adjust the camber to a proper measurement and then adjust the NSF toe to suit.

This is all a bit new to me still learning :geek:
Could you tell me what I need to tell them when I go back so I don't look like an idiot:? Thanks

Tell them that you've shown your print out to a mate with a Z4M and he's looked under your bonnet and seen that the NSF top mount has been moved "outwards" and he says that if it is moved inwards, you'll get more negative camber so that the camber will be the same on both sides, and ask what do they think? Remember to get the thrust angle rechecked and see if they can get it to Zero as well a get the front toe adjusted when they adjust the camber on the NSF.

The top mount will be somewhere near correct when the top of the suspension (the bit with the plastic cap) is centred bang in the middle of the hole in the suspension tower.

So the car is back in for a recheck on Friday ;) so let's hope they can Sort out the NSF wheel this time:roll:

i had an issue with this too, front pasenger side was out and even after the pis were romved they could only just get it into spec (not sure on the weighting thing tho) they reconed there was proabbly something bent a bit preventing it from coming into spec.

I'd want them to sort out that front wheel, that's quite a long way out IMO. Should sort everything out nicely.

so just got back from having the wheel alignment rechecked , and this time I'm a lot happier the car driving like a dream doesn't pull and the steering is so much better :grin:
These are the new results
