Lowered springs - which ones ???

I am thinking of ordering Eibach lowered springs but before hand just want to test what benefits people have got from the lowered springs. As I see it their are 3 benefits but welcome your thoughts?

1.- improved stance/look
2.- lowered centre of gravity hence better road holding
3.- better turn in, when combined with wheel alignment

4.- don't break as often as the OEM ones

I'm going to fit eibachs to mine fairly soon. Glad I read this thread, as I hadn't even thought about the alignment afterwards. Cheers peeps

I mean to drop you a note and ask whether you'd made any progress! Glad to see you're going for the Eibachs! :)

General question for others following this thread: Do the Hunter alignment machines that are being mentioned also take into account things like corner weights?

It may or may not even be possible to adjust the suspension for corner weighting, but I'm just curious what suspension geometry can be tweaked and to what extent a 4 wheel alignment is worthwhile - for example, would it be better to just take the car to a specialist suspension tuner to have the suspension properly set up, rather than dropping 100 notes on a basic alignment?

I think Eibachs and non-runflats will be one of the only 'performance' modifications I make to my Z at the moment, so I'm interested in the possibilities, especially as I've not many miles left in the rubber on the rear tyres :)

sherlock: What's your price up there Tweed?

Saw a set on Ebay for £185ish with free P&P, but someone put a link up here earlier for them cheaper from a reputable seller, so that's more likely to be the way I go. As for the alignment, I'm not far from Easty, so will enquire as to where he got his done ;)

Though I'm also intrigued as to what Siftah's just mentioned re: specialist tuner

Siftah, I got an OEM spring from Blue Bell in Wilmslow, just to get me through the MoT. Then will be fitting the Eibachs along with Brembo discs and redstuff pads hen clients pay their bills! Got a tyre from Craig3.0 which should arrive tomorrow, also to get the MoT quickly. Then next time I need tyres (should be a while now!) will be swapping to Falken 452s :)

Sounds like a good and cost effective way of doing a nice suspension upgrade to me :)

I'm a big fan of waiting until things break but then replacing them with upgraded parts, certainly takes the sting out of the cost and makes spending money to fix things seem more paletable :)

The Falkens are the tyres I've been recommended too, suspect those won't be too far off for me - going to need them before holidays in the Summer at the *very* latest. We'll have to compare notes! :)

They do seem to be popular around these parts :)
I did see the ZE912s (or something like that) from Falken too, but they don't seem as popular here as the FK452s, anyone know why?

Indeed we will!
I want to do that USB power/aux cable mod we were talking about soon, too... Will have to sort out a Zed day, big driveway here, perfect for working on a couple of cars side by side :)

Looks like the ZE912's are "all weather" tyres, ie: probably a little better in the winter at the expense of some summer grip.

The FK452's are summer tyres (as the standard fitment tyres are) so they'll provide better grip in the summer at the expense of the winter performance. By "Winter", I'm not sure exactly what the cut-off is, but it's likely to be somewhere just below 10 degrees celcius. So that's about 75% of the UK year I should imagine.

Evo magazine did a good article on this in it's latest issue - it's only short, so have a read when you're next in Tesco ;)

Sounds like a plan, I'll bring my soldering iron :)
