F-Type modifications - Updated with SVR bumper and skirts fitted

Post by cj10jeeper » Mon May 01, 2017 7:31 pm

I’m usually OK on this stuff, but find myself struggling to decide which way to go, so over to you guys for some personal views, preferences and opinions..

The ‘new’ F-Type is already well advanced on a series of mods, although most are still around the garage floor, at the paint shop, etc. or on delivery from Jaguar

The front gets the SVR bumper which includes genuine carbon fibre chin lip (thanks to the person who had £110k and ran out of talent in the first few weeks of ownership) and the wheels have carbon fibre inserts. Rest of the car has factory black pack, so bonnet side vents, rad grilles, brake ducts, rear diffuser, bonnet louvres, etc.

Part of this project is to add MY18 '400' sports side skirt extensions onto it. These are not fitted to the SVR as it has a complete side body-kit fitted.

So here’s the question as they come in primer - Do I:

• Paint them body colour of Stratus grey (Jag do this on some of the V8 models, albeit a narrower sill extension)?
• Go gloss black to match the black pack
• Paint them another colour (Jag do this on the 400 series)? If so what do you contrast with – the roof is light grey?
• Wrap them in 3D CF as close as possible to the pattern on the wheels and chin, which of course keeps the theme, but wrapped??

Here’s a few photos that may help:

F-Type modification - Paint/Colour choices

Ask 20 people get 20 different answers :) .
I'd try to match the carbon weave and if I couldn't match it I'd go with body colour

Its an expensive car and should have expensive upgrades to suit.
Carbon wrap seems a cheap way to get what you are after and will not look 100%. It wont last that long either.
Im sure I have heard of companies that will cover items with real carbon fibre and lacquer which for me would be a better alternative to wrap but will look better and match what you have already.

Thanks guys - for sure there won't be a single view, which is fine. If we all liked the same things life would be boring

Not heard of wrapping in real CF. Will see if I can find anything

I havnt seen anything up close but have heard of it over the years.
A quick google search brought this up.

And there does appear to be a lot of places around that do it.

Thanks Nitrix,
I had done some searching and the most common title is 'carbon skimming'.
What concerns me is the labour of that process as that will translate to a serious price. Rub down, bond, cure 8 hours, apply 5 layers of lacquer and flatten each, final layer and polish. Feels like £500 a piece for pretty big sills
If I find a local company I can drop in and get a serious quote

Have to say on balance though I'm edging to same colour

I'd match it to the grill bar, which looks gloss black.
I would have said graphite grey metallic, but the car is pretty much that colour anyway.

Carbon wrap would be cool but expensive for the real thing.

If you want to add interest, you could add a wide pin stripe to the outer edge and do the same to the front splitter. Maybe match the colour of the calipers. Like the Lamborghini Veneno did with its carbon pieces.
