7 day detail...
I'm on day 2 of my 7 day detailing journey (the neighbours will think I've gone crazy) and really enjoying the satisfaction that comes with a proper clean and then correcting the paintwork on the car. I can only really spend a couple of hours a day doing it, so it's panel by panel 105 followed by 205 and it's actually quite rewarding doing it yourself, seeing those spider webs disappear. Undecided on which wax to apply at the end of the week, so any suggestions on the latest and greatest for a ruby black MC let me know and I'll order some.
For those who are nervous about doing it, don't be, get a decent kit and crack on, you'll enjoy the challenge.

I really must do some detailing on mine. I'd love to get it over the pit and totally renovate the underneath...get rid of those rusty looking bits and bobs

if you can get it under cover then i would recommend applying a nano coating, such as G-Techniq Serum or exo-v3 or if time allows both. Wont need to worry about waxing again for a couple of years.
If not then i like Swissvax Shield excellent water repellent and is extremely easy to put on and take off and will last 3 to 6 months

Thanks for the replies, will take a look, but at £149 a tub I'll have to see how good I get the correction first! For stone chips and the like, what's people's technique and process for touching these up?

I just use some touchup paint I had made when I got the rear arch resprayed, sometimes mixed with my tears of frustration at getting yet another stonechip, and applied with a toothpick. I know there are very extensive guides on youtube and elsewhere on the web on how to sand, fill, prime, paint, polish, wax etc, but I have a life and stonechips just don't rate highly enough to spend that much time trying to fix them (probably sacreligious advice on a detailing & bodywork forum, sorry )Angelus666 wrote: ↑Wed Jun 21, 2017 8:46 am For stone chips and the like, what's people's technique and process for touching these up?

Take a look at Bilt Hamber waxes, they often come out top when reviewed and compared even against waxes costing much more.

The clear coat on this little Z is like solid granite, it's definitely no quick job....but I'm slowly getting there (probably 10-15 hours already). I've done Megs 105 and 205 using hex logic pads on both rear wings, boot, roof and now bonnet. Here's a quick image of the clouds flowing over the bonnet ridge...

Very nice shine, all the hours will be worth it when it's done and you can stand back and look at it with pride I've yet to find the time to make a start on mine

Sorry just seen your previous thread DAS 6 pro? Take it you are pleased with it. Looks like it's doing a damned good job.

Thanks....! Yep, as an amateur you'll want to take the longer view with paint correction, so working in small sections to get the desired level of result before moving on to the next section. The clear coat on the BMW's are (like people say) hard like granite, so correction isn't a simple case of a few passes with 105 and then they all dissapear. You'll find that you have to go back over the section with a few passes to really get rid of the swirls....and then you'll be left with the more deeper lying scratches that begin to annoy you. Once you're happy with the work done on 105 you can move onto the 205 to add a bit more depth and perfection to the finish.
The Das 6 Pro is a decent machine, it's a bit noiser that my old Megs G220 but in essence pretty much the same thing. Once it's all done I'll add some wax and sealant from the advice given above an really see what level of shine and depth I've managed to achive. I know a pro detailer would do a better, quicker job...but I wanted to enjoy taking the challenge on myself.
I spend most of my time sitting in meetings or on a computer, so it's actually quite satisfying doing a job with your hands where you see immediate results.

Thanks for that. Sounds like that's the one to go for. Also got a Jaguar XJ8 LWB, two other BMWs and two Land Rovers so it will certainly get used! Keep the pics coming. Looking forward to the end result
