Many of the forum members including myself have the problem of the roof not clicking into its clip when fully down in the stowed position.[email protected] wrote: ↑Mon Mar 20, 2017 11:04 am Hi Ross
Thanks for getting back to me. The answer is Yes and No. I took the car to a independent BMW garage (PC Autocare Swindon) to have the car checked for faults as the only thing I could think of was that the hood was out of sink with the cars computer. However I was told it wasn't and it was the hydraulic pump that was not working. I asked them to replace it as I was getting p'ed off at this stage. However when I collected the car the hood wouldn't lock down when in the stowed position. The mechanic gave me some excuse that this was due to the fact that I had removed the plastic cover between the two seats and when this and the protection tray in the boot was replaced the hood would close properly. ie it was my fault it wasn't locking. I will be leaving a negative feed back on this guys work but in the meantime I have now got this problem to sort out. Also the windows don't return to their closed position when the hood is raised. This has take all the joy out my ownership of this car (had it for 6 years).
Mine sometimes does, and sometimes doesn't. I think it's a design fault. I just give mine a gentle push until it clicks into place. I've had my roof motor relocated by Bowser, great guy and very focused on doing the job to the highest standard.

Z4 Roof Motor Replacement £550
I had my Z4 roof motor restored and relocated at the weekend by Ross (Bowser) and just wanted to post to say a huge thank you!
You did an excellent job mate and saved me a small fortune! Also a big shoutout to your missus as well for the lift into Camberley so I could take the better half shopping whilst the motor was being repaired!
If anybody is thinking about repairing and relocating their Z4 roof motor then I can't recommend Ross highly enough!

Z4 Roof Motor Replacement £550
Hi Bowser134
I have a roof snag and also want my motor relocated.
Left the car on the drive under a cover for 7 weeks whilst away with work. Got back, all other bits in the car work properly except the roof. When I press the button, literally nothing happens...no panel light, no window drop, no motor noise....nothing!
Done the following....
Checked the 3 fuses behind the glovebox - all good.
Checked the boot microswitch - is good.
Checked the wiring behind the panel with the roof switches on - looks good.
Pulled the red Bowden cable out and twisted 90 degrees. Removed the roof panel and used the Allen key to release the roof. Tried opening manually and it goes about a foot and hits what I think is hydraulic pressure. Closed by hand now.
Fully charged the battery (took 24 hours) - still nothing.
Any ideas/advice.
Also, can I book in for a motor relocation?
Thanks in advance
John
BTW, car is a 2003 3.0 manual, if that's useful info!!
