Getting a Z4 Soon!

Post by GoldenAyeZ4 » Mon Dec 11, 2017 6:31 pm

Howdy!

I've finally managed to scrape enough to be able to have a second car for fun so decided to get a Z4 was looking at a MX5 but just looks like crap without modifications. Anyway got around 6 grand to spend and got my eye on this one =

https://www.carsnitch.co.uk/used-cars/b ... 43058.html almost got 60k on the clock though is that too high do you think?

Cheers.

That seems a lot for a 15 year old zed :( , check out the classified section here for more realistic pricing.

Welocome. :) That looks nice, but it's too much money. This time of year you should easily find better for your budget, with a little effort. Good hunting.

Your budget can get you in to something a lot newer than that! An Si with a few miles is certainly within it..

Have you seen this: viewtopic.php?f=41&t=99190

Or this: viewtopic.php?f=41&t=89724

The second one in silver is a bit of a bargain IMHO..

If like me you are a bit sensitive about mileage then I would say it seems a good buy. Worth paying a bit more for a car that has travelled less than 5k miles a year. I paid a lot over the odds for my car simply because it was low mileage. There are hundreds of Zeds out there for sale with enormous mileages and owners who claim cars run like a dream. If its a keeper you are looking for then pay over the odds for a low miler.

Low mileage can be as difficult to gauge as high mileage. Generally low milage cars sit, they arent serviced on time and the wearable components wear faster. Generally a high miler wont have the same problem but wearable items wear as it is used.

Somewhere in the middle is good. Or a well serviced/looked after car, file of lengthy size is always useful with cars getting to this age.

this. I fell foul of the older but low mileage thing once before, never again! Had more problems with it than any high mileage version of the same car (e46)

I would have said that around 5k a year is a nice middle figure mine is a low miler but gets serviced way beyond what is necessary. However if you look at what 'Parkers' says then do not stick with BMW service intervals as these should be viewed as the very maximum and that to keep the car in top condition servicing should be carried out more frequently. I fear that many high mileage cars will have stuck with BMW service intervals and would not in my view be a good buy. But I do agree much depends on your point of view and a low mileage thrashed car will be worse than a high mileage cherished car

Thing is cars that are used reach the mileage limits quicker and the computer then changes its intervals to suit.

As long as the oil is done at least once every 2 years I wouldn't worry too much. Buying any car of this age is always a gamble, just have a few K in reserves just in case. Especially with age related needs, shocks are probably past their best same with rubber components just worth baring in mind. Like with anything just buy sensibly.
