E85 3.0 picked up today
So this morning (very early) a friend and I drove from Chelmsford, Essex, to Mansfield, Nottinghamshire and I bought probably the cheapest 3.0 in the country. It was £2k, it's done 163k miles, it's steering is all over the place but I ABSOLUTELY LOVE IT.
It's a "2nd car" for me (4th if you count they project in the garage and the mk1 MR2 I've given to my dad for the rest of his driving time).
I'm actually going to slowly modify it to be purely a track day car as I turn 30 next year and is something I've always wanted to do.
The engine is spot on and sounds great. Heel and toe is a doddle and the gear change feels superb.
I'm going to take my time with this one but the mods I want to do include:
Steering repair - probably wishbone bushes causing the issues. Will probably polybush.
Big brakes.
Bucket seats.
Coilovers.
The engine has enough power to get me in trouble so not interested in modding that (for now). I also happen to have a m62b44 engine sat in my garage which may end up in the Z4 eventually.....
If anyone has any suggestions on the mods mentioned or anything else then I'd love to hear it. I'll try and post some photos shortly.

A 3ltr Zed for 2k Congratulations and welcome aboard
Sounds like you know what you're doing, how about creating a thread showing your conversion to a Track car

I’m jealous - amazing basis for a project. Well done.
2008 Z4MC: heavy wheels | crap suspension | skittish rear end | wobbly engine | not enough induction noise | underwhelming turn in | inconsistent braking | lardy battery | chubby steering wheel

Good idea on the thread. I don't think it will be for a while as I need to get my Mazda rx8 Saab engine swap completed first..... Stuck on the electronics side of this one lol.

You're lucky... i was going to look at and likely buy this exact car today, but when i phoned up on thursday lunchtime you were just about to buy it first!
Still, sounds like you'll be doing exactly what i was going to do with it - track toy! best of luck with it and keen to see how you get on!
PS the next cheapest 3.0 car is £3k right now, which i'm hopefully looking at this afternoon, so no hard feelings!

Oh dear! Sorry!
If it makes you feel any better this car probably needs at least £1k spent on it just to get it tracking straight. And it's 3000 miles beyond a service...

Welcome
Look forward to seeing how you kit it out ready for the track
Sounds like the previous owner just wanted it out the way - so much car for such little money!

There's quite a bit that needs sorting on it but it's a perfect base for a track car as all of those parts will be replaced anyway

Welcome to the madhouse OP.
I'm looking forward to seeing how your plans work out - but how on earth is 37 mpg respectable? Were you driving Miss Daisy?
Enjoy anyway.
Coupes because stunning!

I said possible, not respectable lol.
I was driving my dad so pretty much...
Just set the thing to 70 and that was that. I booted it through any tunnel obviously!
I'm used to seeing 25mpg from my C32 AMG on a run so 37 is staggering. Considering the only difference is 0.2l and a supercharger. Oh and about 1 tonne of weight lol.
It really is a superb car though! And the forum seems to be one of the friendliest I've come across

My Z4 is currently showing an average above 32 mpg on the OBC.
And while they are indeed great cars, this forum is an added bonus!
Enjoy.
