redundant members?

probably a question for the mods

why do we keep redundant members?

if you look at the members list there are loads who joined years back who have no involvement in the forum, they probably never did. why do we keep them on the forum, why do they not get deleted

They may be waiting for the right moment to bid on a hard top and then not show up for collection.

Some people join but don't post. Others go away for a long while and then come back. Does it really matter ?

How about removing/warning those that simply haven't logged on for over a year - as some non-posters might just use this as a read-only resource when they're considering buying a Z4.

If they haven't been on for over a year, then I guess they've moved on to another marque.

But on the other side you get members like Tweed who came back out of the blue or in his case Merlot.

Its like any forum or any system - it all comes down to how much control you want / need and how much benefit you get from wiping out such data. In this case its probably not a lot as the users have minimal to zero post counts. Some forums I'm on will automatically remove an account if you have been inactive for 3 months which is possibly a little harsh in my eyes. A year? I dont log into peipoo for over a year at a time occasionally.

I agree there are lots of users who dont come back but where do you draw the line?

There's no real value in deleting people. A lot of people register so they can subscribe to threads and get notifications if there is an update. There's no overhead to keeping their account active so no need to delete them.

It's surely only an issue if the forum server is running short on disk space? And if it's that tight there's probably bigger/better things that can be done. Like others have said, there's no real overhead in just keeping data.
